Stephanie Cohen was appointed Vice President of Government & Industry Relations at Cedars-Sinai in 2024. In this capacity, she leads government and industry relations and coordinates with hospital and academic medical systems nationwide to advance policy priorities at the local, state and national levels.
Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai, Stephanie served as Associate Vice President of Health Policy at Keck Medicine of USC, where she teamed up with academic and health system partners to strengthen Keck Medicine’s public policy engagement in Los Angeles, Sacramento and Washington. She developed close working relationships with elected leaders and their staffs, forged healthcare coalitions and focused on expanding government research funding.
Stephanie has more than a decade of experience in health policy and government relations, having served on the staffs of California Assemblymember Richard Bloom and Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl.
Stephanie’s passion for healthcare began in the California Assembly as the state began implementing the Affordable Care Act. While working for Assemblymember Bloom, she was instrumental in educating community stakeholders, service providers and constituents about Covered California enrollment, while enrolling 50th district residents in coverage. In addition to her passion for healthcare policy, Stephanie played an active role in educating community providers, constituents, and stakeholders in the district about the state’s response to homelessness, veterans affairs and early childhood education. Lastly, Stephanie served as Assemblymember Bloom’s liaison to religious communities and staffed the Assemblymember during the creation of the nation’s first Legislative Jewish Caucus.
Stephanie has also led legislative efforts around affordable and interim housing for populations experiencing homelessness, gender affirming care in the county health system, and streamlining data reporting on sexual orientation and gender identity countywide. Stephanie was responsible for legislation that created and implemented the Los Angeles County Veteran Suicide Review Team, the first of its kind in California and one of three nationwide, and she led legislative efforts in Washington to expand reimbursement for street medicine programs.
In her personal time, Stephanie founded the Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness, a 501c3 created in 2014 as a community response to the region’s homeless population, and she serves on the Board of the Human Relations Council of the Santa Monica Bay. Additionally, in September 2022, VA Secretary Denis McDonough appointed Stephanie to the Veteran Community Oversight and Engagement Board, where she currently serves as a Federal Appointee/Special Government Employee.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in West Los Angeles, Stephanie holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and is currently pursuing her J.D. at Southwestern Law School.
